As I'm too cheap to buy the manual.... Could someone please tell me what is the torque spec for the heads on my 88 Merc 150 XR4? Also, basic carb float settings? My old notes tell me 1/16 under the bowl face.
Thanks for any help, I hope to be fishing tomorrow!
Dennis

Re: head torque

The torque for the heads depends on which style you have on this motor. I will try to describe the two styles but feel free to e-mail me if you still have a question. If you look at one side of the head and it has one bolt at the top, two close together, another two close together, and then one at the bottom, it should be 40 ft lb (Type 2 heads). If you have the heads with approximately equally spaced bolts on each side then it should be 30 ft lb (Type 1 heads). As for the floats, they should be 1/16" just like you said.

Re: head torque

Thanks for the info. These are the type 2 heads, good description. Now if my the dealer would have given me the head gaskats for my 2.5 liter ibsted of the 2.0, I'd be in business! Well, maybe by the 4th!
