Head & intake bolts

Using high temp thread sealent (permatex) for the head bolts, What do you put on the intake manifold bolts? Tourqe for head & intake?

Ayuh,... The same stuff'll do the same job,....

I think the intake is 35ft.lbs, 'n the heads 65ft.lbs....
The manual is up in the Adults Only section at the top of this forum...
Then you'll know for Sure...

My 1999 5.7 was torque to yield [tty]. You do a low pre-torque and then turn the bolts a certain degree. This is supposed to put a more consistent torque. Bolts just at the yield, stretch point. I purchased a torque dial indicator for this. Pain in the but compared to the old torque method but I am sure it is better. Did you get new head bolts or at least check them for stretch. Ignore this if your engine isn't tty but I would think it would be.

New bolts should have thread sealer already applied so do not need anything.

Moetr: I've never seen head bolts come with any kind of sealer on them. That's something new to me, and I've built and repaired quite a few engines. Many manuals actually call for putting clean oil on head bolts rather than a sealer. It varies by engine and manufacturer. The best bet is to follow the manual for your engine. Many engines today require new bolts foor head installation due to stretching of bolts on installation. The bolts are torqued to a specified tightness and then turned another 90 degrees. Sometimes its impossible to use a torque wrench to tighten manifold (intake or exhaust) bolts because of space limitations. Approximate torque then comes from experience with a wrench, not as tight or as critical as with head bolts. Hy
