I have a Volvo 230. I had water in the oil. I brought it to my mechanic and he diagnosed the problem as a blown head gasket. Is $1500 a reasonable price? How long should the repair take? Anything else I should look out for?

No that is rediculous. I will fly up there from NC and do it for 1,000.00 :)

No really that sounds extremly high. I don't have a chilton guide saying how long it takes but I would guess no more than 500.00 to do the job.

It isn't that hard to do that kind of work. Most people will pay around 500 to 600 to swap out a complete motor. Should take about the same amount of time. It ids all based on time being a per hour charge. The gasket set won't cost no more than 50 to 75 dollars.

What year is your boat, make sure you don't have a manifold problem also. Was it a boat mechanic you had look at it?

Boat is a 1996. The manifold looks good. He had it apart and said that the number 1 and 3 cylinders sprung a leek.
