Anyone know where I could find one? Its for a 50hp mid 90's Nissan 2 cyl 2 stroke.

I am drawing blanks.

Thanks

It's been obsolete for about ten years so there is no known source.

Anyone have any other thoughts on where I could look?
One online company had one, I purchased it, only to get refunded after they found out it was no longer available. Is there anything that will interchange?

Wow that's early to no longer have parts available!

All parts were available for ten years after that engine model went out of production. So, it's really not early at all.

Last resource : If you happen to still have the original one available, check for a Company that makes general gaskets, head gaskets to duplicate same, at least down here we do it all the time when an original it's not available.-

I can still get parts for my 1967 Johnson and my 1986 Honda dirt bike. If the manufacturer stops making parts at only 10 years out then thats a reason to avoid the brand, IMHO. Who expects their outboard to be unservicable after only 10 years?

You can get SOME parts for the old OMC and Honda... not all of them.

Given that many OB models are available new for 10 or 20 (or more) years, if you then look at an additional 10 years, that makes a typical model run a whopping 30 years. That would never happen with a car or boat. Try to get genuine MoPar parts for your 1966 Chrysler Imperial.

Technology changes a lot in a third of a century... and OB's that run in salt will not last that long, so demand for service parts drops to nul. While it would be nice to get parts "forever", the reality is that OB manufacturers can't afford to have old, dusty parts dry-rotting on the shelf, or have the sub-manufacturers run a handful of "new" parts for them every couple of years. When demand for a particular part drops to near zero, the part will be discontinued.

I'm a firm believer that if you want to hang with yout motor for long years to come, you need to stock most commom parts you'll need to change and have them in stock, just in case 10 years have elapsed fast and happens to be an old model. It's an investmen way to go for peace of mind. It's out of this world to have a grounded engine for a miserable cheap head gasket that's out of stock forever. If engine model is under current production, not to worry much...

Re: Head Gasket needed

I still maintain that 10 years is way too early to stop supplying parts, IMHO anyway. To think that any outboard should not be serviceable after only 10 years is insane. I'm in S. FL, this has got to be one of the harshest environments for motors. I grew up with boats and most of my friends have boats, and none of us have ever considered motors to be disposable after only 10 years. I bought my personal Honda new in 1999, and even with almost all salt water use I've got no reason to believe that it shouldn't go another 10 years. If I had to trash the motor because a simple gasket wasn't available then I would be livid and never buy the brand again. I could see no longer making seldom needed parts, like a crankshaft or connecting rods, but to no longer supply something used more often like a head gasket is just horrid customer support.

If a quality motor has a production run of 20 years, then there should be piles of them out there and therefore a reasonably big market for replacement parts after only 10 years post-production.

Re: Head Gasket needed

OP doesn't specify engine model, just 50 HP. Probably he's got the old model and manufacturer stopped producing parts for it. Plenty available parts if it were the updated 50 HP model under current production.-
