I am getting ready to put my haead back on my 60 hp johnson 2 cyl. The old and original gasket definitley had sealant on it. I asked a dealer yesterday and he said don't put anything on it. I think if it was sealed it would only help back up the sealing surface of the metal rings, and would aid in preventing any water leaks. I have OMC gasket sealer that says it may be applied to head gasket. what would you do?

Use it. It is more of a dressing than anything. It is a wet sealer and makes the gasket more pliable. One of the things it does is lubricates the gasket so you do not tear the gasket when you torque it. Just enough to make a thin coat. Keep it off the metal ring. Not too messy and gasket will come off nice in the future if need be.

Most of the new head gaskets say "no sealer required." They have a sticky feel to them. Most of the time, they work just as advertised. However, for a block/head which may be uneven due to a prior overheat, it is not a problem to use sealer on those gasekts. Just make sure you keep on the edges of the block and heads, as was mentioned.

Your new gasket probably has a dry sealant already applied. You should NOT add anything to that kind of gasket.
