Replacing head gasket on 1983 J140 V4 with an omc gasket and the brown liquid omc gasket sealer. Where and how should the sealer be applied. I assume that none should be applied to the inner metal rings that squeeze between the cylinder and the head but I am not sure. Also, how long must I wait before testing. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Duxman

Re: Head Gasket Help

I always paint the block and head rather than putting it on the gasket. Doesnt matter, either way. And yes, it can go on the fire ring. No problem.

Dhadley - Thanks for the info. How long should I wait before testing the seal of the gasket with the OMC gasket sealer used. Duxman

Re: Head Gasket Help

Ive changed gaskets and ran the motor as soon as the heads were back on. How were you going to test it?

When building a powerhead we pressure check the cooling syatem shortly after the heads go on. No problem.
