Head Gasket Change?

I have a 77 Johnson 35HP. After running, I notice oily water running down the exhaust housing and when I remove the engine cover, there is oily water in the bottom of the case.

I've checked the carb to see if fuel was leaking from there, but it is ok. I just can't seem to locate the source of the leak. Since it has water and oil, I was wondering if it could be leaking out of the head. The gaskets have not been changed in a long time. Any thoughts? Thanks-Jeff.

check the fuel pump (starboard side) for leaks.

No, I have not. I've never done one before. Engine runs fine with great power.

Also, just replaced fuel pump gasket and have not observed leaks there.

Could be a leak somewhere along your water line, have you noticed a difference in the pressure from the water exiting the relief ports

I'll check the waterline more closely. I'm trying to rule out all simple fixes first.

To get some good input on this one you need to post some pictures that show what you are seeing.

To get an oil and water mix, you either have two leaks or one leak where the two fluids are normally mixed. About the only place where they are normally mixed would be the exhaust area.

I had a 79 35 hp that leaked fuel/oil mix into the lower cowl whenever tilted up on the transom. Since it was always tilted after every use, it was a messy problem. When upright and running-ran fine with no leaks. I lived with it for years till I sold it.

Thanks, guys. I'll post some pics of the engine and see if anything looks familiar. Have a good one-Jeff.
