Re: head cleaning

I suggest you run the engine up to temp and shut off. Next pull the spark plugs out and spray mercury power tune in the holes. Let sit for 15 minutes. Crank engin over with spark plugs out till no power tune is spraying out the holes. Put spark plugs back in and run engine back up to temp. You can also use mercury quickclean in the fuel to clean varnished fuel out of the carbs.

You can also do a search for "de-carb". There's a ton of info about it.

c/6

Hooty

'mornin' KiwOn2,

It's not a tough job. Get a new head gasket.
The biggest concern is breaking the head bolts so take care when removing.
With the heads removed you can use carb cleaner and a brass brush to clean it up real pretty.
Use a very fine grit (at least 220) wet/dry sand paper on a "FLAT" surface. Lay the head, face down on the sand paper. Cycle the head in a figuer-8 pattern to clean-up the mating surface of the head.
Re-mount the head with the new gasket and torqe to spec.

One question though. Why do you want to do this?

As the others have suggested, a decarb can do a decent job of cleaning the combustion chamber.

Good Luck
HAVE FUN!
