What's the deal with "Hawker Odyssey' batteries? They seem to be quite remarkable but I have only read a little about 'em. Are they as good as they are hyped to be?

Thanks alot
Pond Monkey

Re: Hawker "dry cell' batteries

The Odyssey specs just like an AGM. Compare the Hawker's Odyssey group 31 to a NorthStar (DualPro Lightening) group 31. The NorthStar has a little less internal resistance so it can handle higher current coming and going. Hawker has a 12-year shelf/float life, NorthStar is 20-years. Other than that, the batteries look very similar. Unless you will have extraordinary discharging and recharging, I’d say get whichever of the two is less expensive.

NorthStar is a couple guys that left Hawker and started their own factory with several million bucks in financial backing from a retired plastics injection-molding guy with too much money. A significant advantage of NorthStar’s products is that they are manufactured entirely by robotics. They have been distributing their batteries for almost 4 years, never had a single battery returned as defective. They are located in Georgia between two lead mines. Lead is cheap, but shipping isn’t. Their location was intentional to keep costs down. And for the tree-huggers, NorthStar has never allowed any detectable contaminates to be released into the environment. Battery manf are notorious for heavy dumping of toxins and polluting the environment. NorthStar is rated 100% green...so far.
