having problems geting the impeller off a1979 35hp johnson

I am changing the lower end off the leg to get at the impeller am i missing something I have undone the half inch nut on the front and the 6 3/8 bolts but when I get it droped about an inch it sticks and wont give when i try to shift into gear to see if that helps it sucks back up?any one?

on the side of the motor leg, is a 1x3 inch plate, remove the cover, you shift linkage connector is in there, remove the bottom bolt. also when reassembling, the bolt MUST go thru, the indention on the lower shift rod.
