I have an 84 bay liner Capri with Volvo Penta aq125a 270 od. I'm having an issue with the fuel. When at idle it will not stay running and dies when trying to accelerate. I just changed all the fluids and gas. When I put it up last summer, August, I was having this problem as well. At that time it ran great out of water but under load would not idle and go into gear. Thought it was cold temp that was the problem, then fuel filters, and finally just had to give up due to back surgery. Now it does it while on trailer. I'm thinking maybe dirty carb because I'm not seeing the fuel flow like it should and when I prime it it kicks right over. After reading some similar posts I'm wondering about timing. I did remove the points and clean the poles with emery cloth but may have screwed up the adjustment. I'm going to purchase a carb kit because it needs to be done, I think, and also new points and condenser. Just wanted some input from more experienced people first. Thanks for the help.

Re: Having issues with idle and fuel flow.

depending on previous maintenence, a full tune up is always a good idea.

Adjusting the points does change the timing, so that may be a factor as well. Always adjust your points, preferably with a dwell meter, before setting your timing.

I would also run a compression test on the engine to make sure it is up to spec.

Welcome to iboats, btw.
