Having an issue with spark and need help

I have a Yamahe outdrive with a chevy engine, I do notg have spark on plug one. It comes and goes, I have changed plug wires, distibuter, rotor, ignition module and pick up coil. Spark is intermitten b ut not consistant. I think I have a short ssomewhere, does anyone think it can be something else or am I going in the right direction.

Does that mean you have good spark on the rest of them? What Chevy engine do you have? Year? Which distributor? Maybe a model #

Today I pulled the starter out and found the housing cracked, would this cause the spark issue I am having? The engine is a GM L3 3.0 with a Mercruiser cap, unfortunatley I do not have the model number. I have good spark coming out of the coil, its when it comes out of the cap is where I am losing it for some reason. The cap and plug wires are new , purchased last week. I found the crack in the starter today.
