When I first came on board it was to gethelp on a Boat I recently Bought. From Their I met alot of outstanding folks who share the same Love of fishn as I do.

Have you noticed the lack of responses from those who are always here in the last few weeks? Instead of bantering back and forth in A joking Manner it has turned into discust and reactions(including myself)thats not us.

We are 15,000 strong. Don't let a couple of Individuals take away the Knowledge,Help and fun we have here.
As PF has said their are no leaders here, but you older members need to use your influence to the Moderators of this forum. You guys are the ones who has contributed to the success of this Forum.
The Survial of this site rest solely in our hands and the Moderators.
Where else can we go to Talk to RJ in NewZealand or Bear in Sweden or try to a dig out of JB and his Hideout? How many of you punch in here every day to get a few laughs or some serious help on your boats? Where else can you go to share fishn info from people from all walks of life? Are you willing to sit by and let a select few turn this forum into A dead Zone? To sit and do nothing will be a great loss to all of us.
I was going to post on my Honey Do Vac but now am afraid if I do it will create more havoc.

I'm sorry my spelling sucks and my Paragraphs aren't correct in nature but My Secretary makes to much now...

Lets get back to the good old days or we are going to lose those we will miss such as Sco who has had enough....

Its up to us .....Sorry for taking up so much space................

Re: Have you Noticed?

Have to admit, I'm one of those who doesn't contribute as much anymore. Doesn't even come to read posts as often.

Sort of got tired of members that do not respect the basics of the site: Respect among members and a fair portion af good manners.

I take it gonfishn's post is a regret to this situation.

I guess it's woth reconsidering, after all - this forum really is too good to die from contamination by fools.

Re: Have you Noticed?

While I agree with most of what you have to say, Gonfishn, I haven't given up on helping a few new members become adapted to this site's personality and style.

You and I have visited other Fora in which hoots and giggles are the style and darned little is asked or learned about boats and engines. They seem more interested in gossip, parties and interminal "debates" about trivia.

If a member were to come here after some time on Forum X (s)he might start out in a manner that they are used to. . . "forums are for banter, remember?"

When new members learn from experience that not all fora are for hoots, giggles and banter I think they will adopt the style of posting that we are used to and comfortable with.

If they can't or don't want to adapt, I think they will decide for themselves to leave for more familiar environs.

I hope they stay. We are certain to benefit from their boating and engine knowledge. Who would have thought a month ago that Sloopy's contributions would become more helpful and less disruptive? :D

Re: Have you Noticed?

Thanks Gonefishin. I'm no guru though, and have engaged in too much mouthing off of late. I've about decided to stick solely to boating topics, which is why I came to this board in the first place. For example, I just installed a prop shaft bearing carrier w new bearings and orings and see it is not holding oil. Makes me want to go out and plop down 6K for a new engine. Every time I put an "opinion" down, I end up regreting it.

Re: Have you Noticed?

naughtybynature,

I'm sure folks here knows about stuff and won't leave just because of one person's posts.

You couldn't possibly make this happen all by yourself - still, the mentioned basics should be follwed by all - including you and me.

Re: Have you Noticed?

It seems like everyone got real drunk for a little while there and now you're all pretty hung-over and remorseful. Don't worry you're good people and you'll continue to do your good here and be buddies and you've learned a little more about what's tolerable to each other. I appreciate the help I've received here and hope I can leave a little more than I've taken in the end.

If you need to get trashed though, go to the Moose-Pit. He's dancing on the tables in his ********* right now!

Re: Have you Noticed?

I came looking for boat motor help and stayed because of the fishing and stupid human tricks. I tend to hang there and this forum I contribute what usefull info I can about something I know and stay the heck away from things i don't like the boat motor forum. Most technical questions are better answered by others who know more than I.

Re: Have you Noticed?

diversity is what makes life interesting and fun.
I don't mind if people post their opinions in the
proper forums as long as it doesn't get into a
personal attack.
the other thing that bothers me is when banter
is posted in serious threads. posting for the
sake of posting is annoying. a little humor mixed
in with some pertinent information is fine, but
adding garbage to someone's thread isn't.
(see above)
finally, it sure seems to me that most of the
best tech. gurus have stopped posting in this
forum even before the recent distastful debates.
I sure hope they are on holiday and will return.
otherwise, I'll be answering tech. questions and
you really don't want that! ( come back guys!!!)
seriously though, this forum has been a great wealth of
information for me. I have really learned
a lot from people like JB, Steelspike, Dhadly, Bear etc.
I would hate to think others would not have the
same opportunity in the future.
thank you all for letting me express my opinion.
warmest regards,
M.Y.

Re: Have you Noticed?

drop it mellow. this thread had no real direction anyways, sloopy's little interlude was not distasteful. you looking to stir things up again? forget about it and move on. by the way, sloopy posted in the correct place for such a reply. you want to hear motor stuff go there. seems you just can't let this go... the rest of us have. thanks for letting me say my peice.

Re: Have you Noticed?

nbn, if this thread has no direction for you then
why bother posting? I didn't point fingers or
call anyone a name, I just expressed my opinion.
my comments were not intended to stir things up
but have apparently struck a nerve with you.
the attack on sloopy was over the line to me
because it was personal. there's no need to take
it to that level IMHO. you and I can disagree
without attacking each other, right????

Re: Have you Noticed?

that's the point mellow, it isn't personal. you didn't get to me as much as the fact that i have never heard so much snivelling about a couple of threads in my life! the great debate was fun while it lasted, it is done. you and a couple others have mentioned that some of the old timers don't post anymore... perhaps it is because they have moved on. i must have hundreds of sites in my favorites that i used to visit... the internet is a fickle place my friends. people change, lives change, interests change. heck i can GUARANTEE you guys that i too will move on! i wasn't bustin your chops mellow, just more of a sound off to all. the chief set me straight (for now) i don't need the rest of the peasants reminding me every couple of posts. that is all.
