have mercuiser serial # need help

Serial # 0c840262 Others on the site asked for # to get more info on motor.Did a google search with no results.Any info would be great.

That serial number is for a 1989 Alpha I outdrive with a 1.84 gear ratio.

I have the same problem but I am not sure if the number I have is the serial number. The tin tag fell off. Stamped on the block is the engine size with another number to the right. Not sure if it is a serial number or not. The numbers I see are: 5.7LG SGI 14093638. There is also a G228 a little ways off from the other ones. Any help at identifying this engine would be greatly appreciated. I need to order some parts for it and am not sure the specifics for year etc.
