Hi Will,
I think used that impeller in my KF5 - I had to hog out the sleeve a bit with a round file to get it to fit, but it worked perfectly! Sometimes with 60 year old motors we have to improvise a bit.

Re: have a mercury kf-5 need help!

I just replaced two impellers, one on an Old QD-17 (10hp) Johnson from the 50's and a V4S-10 (50Hp). I got the parts from Marinengine.com. They had the exact match? Check em out. Also, you may check out Twincitymarine.com. I have a friend who had a similar problem and we ended up milling his cover out, be very very careful if you chose this route. If you have a good mill, and can (mic) micrometer it to a precise diameter so it fits snug and try not to burr the inside you should be okay. I would really try to find the right impeller before I went that route...

Anyone ever figure this one out? Old mercs.com is running a racket with their $47 price for the impellor which they do not even have in stock. Marineengine.com doesn't go back that far for Mercury- but yeah great source for OMC parts.

Re: have a mercury kf-5 need help!

I found out the hard way, by trying a 47-22748 impeller that someone said they thought worked. It wasn't even close in size to correct and didn't pump a drop of water (I tried it by turning the driveshaft with a drill before reinstalling it on the motor). It was a waste of money.
The correct and only impeller that I know fits it is 47-22062. I've seen it listed at several places all in the $40+ range, which is pretty steep, but being that Mercury doesn't sell them anymore, I guess the aftermarkets can name their price as they got you. I was able to improvise a OMC impeller into working and pumping, but it was alot of work, and I wouldn't recommend it if you plan to run the motor alot. I can give anyone the name of the 3 places that carries the correct impeller if they need one. If anyone has found an impeller that does work and is a cheaper alternative, please post it.

And to those that are having difficulty getting the cover off for your water pump, remember that it is a reverse thread, left is tightening, right is loosening it.
