Till it arrives can anybody tell me the correct spark gap for my motor 1981 v4 115hp. I have just bought a new set of Champion L77JC4 plugs & dont trust factory presets to be correct. Also is it possible to disable the gear selector without dismantling the control box to allow to rev motor with just muffs on. How far should the fast idle lever lift the revs????

The reason you do not want to rev the motor on muffs is that it can over rev uncontrolably for a period of time causing damage! Ive never experienced it myself, but I saw it happen at the ramp once, not a pretty picture!  I understand it is because there is no load on the motor!

Maybe someone else can expand on it more!!

LubeDude

By reving without load, you wont confirm fix anyway.

Lots of people have bought used v4´s hearing them without load, only to discover problems when they got on their boats and in the water.
