Have a look

I have recently aquired a Mercury KH 500. It seems to be a '62-'63. However I have tried to check the serial number and it says that all models made in those years were "Cloud White", except for the wrap. Well my Mercury is ALL Black, and doesn't seem to be painted, and the Serial # 1481716 says it should be "Cloud White".
Any help will be appreciated very much. Thanks.

Re: Have a look

I also have another simple question I left out. 2 of my spark plug holes seem to be stripped. I have heard it's not a problem unless it's the bottom socket, which in my case just happens to be the one. Can you tap the bottom socket or will I end up having to cut at my casing. Again, any help would be great, Thanks.

Ok.... Would that take someone that just has a manual and a little knowledge like a week?.. I guess what I'm asking is that something Maybe I could handle without taking to the shop?

You can do it, but you better make sure you have all the parts and TOOLS before you start. Order a gasket set for too...

As to the paint, if you scrape a little paint from the back and see some white, then it was painted. But thats not a bad thing. Some change the color to match the boat its on...
Also dont beleive every thing you read. They could have gotten punchy at the factory too..
