I heard the report, and sixteen teachers were on a boat that had an accident, I don't know if it was a collision or a single-boat accident.<br /><br />I know there was a death, but I don't know how many... it was a brief mention on the news.<br /><br />I will search.

That area is very treacherous due to traffic, current, shifting shoals and alcohol. The area they describe as "The Sandbar", is a huge party hangout. That time of day a lot of partiers are heading back to Havasu proper from the river. There is a blind corner just downriver from the Sand Bar and it narrows quite a bit. One of the areas I am especially careful. People that don't boat there probably wouldn't understand that even 28 - 40 footers capable of 80+ MPH are not uncommon. Pretty scary combos . . .<br /><br />With that said, it is still one of my favorite places to boat. Beautiful (and quiet) lake coves and totally different natural river sections along with a wide variety of marinas, restaurants, hotels etc. etc. Really does have something for everybody, even those who want to be totally out of control :rolleyes:

Havasu is are favorite place to go just not on holidays but there always seems to be a few Crazeys on the water. Its is sad but this happens a couple times a year here safety just seems to go out the window when some get in a boat sad but true. We were out on the lake one night headed back to marina no moon I keep thinking I could see something on the water heading our way. It was the Havasu Tour boat running with no lights on..... :mad:
