So here's the scoop. 1984 mariner 150. Bad compression on one cylinder. If it wasn't for all of this great information I would not have been able to get this far. :) I pulled the cylinder head and this is what I found.temp_2.jpgtemp_3.jpg My question Is where the @#$% did all that metal come from!? This is as far as I have ever dove into an engine. Kinda scared. PLEASE HELP!!
Thanks

It's a little hard to tell from the picture but; is the top of that piston actually coming apart in flakes?

Re: Hate my life.

It appears that both the piston and the head cover have indents or impressions left by unknown object/s.

Looks like the ring has come apart and and has been bashing up and down in the cylinder. Had it happen a ton of times on snowmobiles. Looks like a re-build for sure. This would explain the lack of compression and the marks. I have had lots of ring bits embedded in the head before.

I also hate my Mercury life right now, but that is another story

lmao. Thanks for the info. Not looking forward to the price tag of the rebuild.
