Well, thanks to all of you in this forum, my boat has run great this year ('85 searay amberjack w/ twin omc 3.8L V6's and 800 series drives)....my only problem is warm starts, both engine start fine when cold, but after they have been run and shutdown they both start hard. I have done complete tune-up this spring, and I have checked both chokes (wide open when warm). Any ideas why this happens?

Re: hard warm starts

When you are starting warm, are you pumping the throttles at all? Every engine acts is different, but it kills me seeing my friend start his dual 305's on his old Owens by quickly pumping the throttles 3 or 4 times before starting when warm.

When I take the boat out, a quick turn of the key with no pumping gets them started right away when warm.

my boat act like that too, what i do is put the throttle all the way and it start every time . just pull the throttle back to nutral as soon as it catch.

my other friend boat has a new 5.0 merc his does the same after a run, will not catch. just crank antil u put thr throttle all the was.

iam not loosing any sleep over mines any more.

good luck if you find a cure please post it.

Every engine is different but when mine is warm i just bump the key and it starts every time....
Shouldn't have to pump it when warm...

Does your engine turn over slow like a dead battery when warm??
Does it turn over normal but just not start??
