Re: hard to start

Are you talking "Cold" start ? Make sure the choke butterfiles are fully closed. These motors need a good Chokin'...
Follow the normal procedure.
Connect fuel, squeeze bulb til hard, put in neutral, raise fast idle lever about vertical,
Turn key to on,press and hold choke button (Do you hear a click?) turn key to start. Don't crank for too long as you can damage starter. Just short bursts til she starts.

Don't think it matters where you put it, between tank and motor, but mine has tank, 1ft tube, car fuel filter, 1ft rubber tube, bulb, 2ft tube connector.. motor. Works for me.

Re: hard to start

The bulb should be on the fuel hose just before it connects to the motor. It's purpose is to pump the fuel from your tank and fill the carbs prior to starting. After start the fuel pump will draw enough fuel. The bulb must be pumped up hard before you try to start - sounds like you are not getting enough gas to start.

Ya think maybe thats why its so hard to start???

If you do not have the bulb hooked up, the combination of the choke and the fuel pump have to fill the carbs with fuel before it can start, not a good thing. Hook a new bulb up between the tank and the engine.

Make SURE the arrow on the bulb points toward the engine.

Re: hard to start

I have the same motor and just got it a month ago. A trick i was shown was to pump up the bulb until hard, this is with the motor trimmed/tilted up. Once hard continue to squeeze it some, just until a couple of drops of gas drip from the motor. Then trim it down level into the water or on muffs (water flowing of course). Press and hold the choke while turning over the motor. Mine will cold crank like this in about 2 to 3 seconds.
