You should not hear any clicks until you push in on the key -- that's what activates the choke. Starting procedure is as follows:

Squeeze primer bulb until firm. (Fills the carbs with fuel)
Raise fast idle lever or activate fast idle function. If you have a control box mounted to the side of the boat the fast idle lever is on top of the box. If all you see is a a control lever on the side of the boat, then push the button in the center of the lever and move the lever forward. Pushing that button disengages the shift linkage so you can advance the throttle without going into gear.
Now turn the key to start the push in on the key.
When the engine fires release the key and bring the idle down to an above idle warm up setting.
Be prepared to push the key in momemtarily if the engine tends to slow down and die. This is a carbureted two stroke and they need a bit more fuel during warm up.

Do evrything silvertip says except if you have a Morse control box then you have to pull the lever out to disengage the gears and go to fast idle. Make sure the primer bulb is firm before you try to start the engine; mine loves all that fuel.:D
