I have a chevy 350 and an OMC Cobra outdrive, it's easy to shift in and out of forward while not running, but with the engine running it's very hard to shift in and out of forward but still easy to put in reverse? What's wrong?

It shouldn't matter but it's a 1990 Chris Craft Bowrider.

Howdy,

You're right. it doesn't matter what boat you have......you didn't indicate what you have but I'll assume that you have a dog-clutch Cobra........

First of all, you need to do a little reading to understand how the Cobra (dog-clutch) shift system works.

Have a look at the following link.

http://www.hastings.org/~stuart/cobra/

It may answer most or all of your questions on what could be causing your problem.

In a nutshell, you can really only check your shift system for proper operation (once the components are fixed/adjusted) with the boat IN the water.

Regards,

Rick
