Hard time to plane out?

Have 95' 16ft Glassport, brand new Yamaha 4-stroke 115 with 21" prop. With two people in boat, takes long time to plane out, but runs about 70mph when planed out. Why does it take so long to plane out?

sounds like too much pitch on the prop

Do you have a tachometer on it, wormbait? What rpm are you turning at WOT?

My first throught is that you are a bit overpropped, as Pas Bon suggests.

all it says on my prop is k21. after it plains out i am at 6200 rpms

Holy Cow!! 6200rpm is awful high for that engine.

Well, you are not overpropped. You might even be a little underpropped.

I wonder how you are managing your trim on accelleration. Do you start out with the engine trimmed all the way down, then trim it out only after you are on plane?

yes i trim all the way down that is the only way to get it to come on to plain

You need to fix your tach, there is NO WAY a 115 can hit 6200 with 21 inches of pitch....unless prop is very very small diameter(like 12")...where did you get the prop....prop for this should be something like 14.5diam.X19.0pitch....something is way outa whack, do you have yamaha digital tach or third party analog? Are you getting the 6200 with motor trimmed way up(too far)...6200 is rev limiter. In any case to get boat on plane faster, lose the pitch...it's that simple. And you will lose top speed of coarse.

Have Yamaha Tack. I Got The Prop With The Motor But I Think Thay Changed It. Cant Trust The Shop I Bought It Off Of.,
