Hi all:
I have a 1992, 70hp Yamaha. I change the spark plugs at least twice each season and have a almost brand new battery. Yet on colder mornings it is always difficult to start. Once it has warmed up, it starts instantly. Is there anything that can be done to make it start a little easier?
Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

The problem is in the choke circuit. You need to remove the air box on the front of the carbs an activate the choke and make sure the choke plates are completly closing. A two stroke will not start without extra fuel. If its inrichment engine that works automatically they start very hard because this system doesnt work well. The way you tell the difference is the automatic choke engines doesnt come with a toggle for the choke on the control box. If you have the engine with an electric choke solenoid there is an adjustment on the solenoid. The plunger has a line on it. you line the line up with the end of the solenoid when the system is not activated. V

Looking at the breakdown of that engine shows it has the enrichment solenoid on the port side of the center carb. Do not advance your throttle when you start your engine. Advancing the throttle drops the vacuum on the intake that is required to draw the fuel into the system. Not one of Yamaha's best enrichment systems.
