Symtoms:
1. Takes full choke, full throttle to start. At least 5 tries for 10-15 secs each try.
2. When fires smokes like crazy (loaded)
3. All four plugs look the same when removed. wet and black...so, i dont think its a fuel issue. fresh fuel.
4. Motor starts easier when warm but doesnt start and idle well. Seems to load up easy (smoke after it fires)

C.D. Ignition: Ignition coils are new. One power pack is new. Wiring looks good.

Suggests PLEASE...much appreciated.

first verify food compression and spark on all four cylinders. That motor need to spin over at 300 rpm to provide a good spark at start up. Is your battery fully charged and strong enough to spin it fully. Are your choke plates closing fully, and when you say full throttle are you refering to the warm up lever all the way up, if so that would be normal. When is the last time your carbs were cleaned? It sounds like your low speed jets may be partially clogged. Also verify that your timing is advancing and not stuck.

I agree with crb478. The warm up lever is basically for timing advance on your engine, it only opens the throttle plates a little, but needs to be fully raised for a cold start and then lowered slowly as the engine warms.

You need to take the air silencer cover off the carburetors and personally see that the chokes are 100% fully, absolutely closed and stay closed while you crank for a cold start. If they open at all, their effectiveness in enriching the fuel air mix during a cold start will be lost. You can adjust the choke solenoid in small increments to permit tighter closing if the plates are properly synchronized.
