Engine: Evinrude 120
1993 or 1994
4 Cylinder
I have been having trouble with this engine starting recently. It has slowly gotten worse. It is not the starting system, compression is fine, I just cleaned all 4 carbuerators....
When I start it it jumps to but spews a ton of smoke, it runs rough, skipping a cylinder occasionally and then just loses power and dies out. I did this routine for about a half hour this morning until it finally caught. I could hear the engine finally switch modes (temperature thing?) and then it ran great.....Clean (for that engine) and smooth and I didn't have any trouble the rest of the day.
I had similar trouble before I cleaned the carbs about a month ago..then it ran great. Can they be dirty already? I put a new fuel filter on when I cleaned the carbs.
So the real question for me is...Why does it run so bad at first, then fine? What is different when it is cold?
thanks,
rusty
