Hard stall

When my boat is at idle it revs perfect but once I put it into gear the motor shuts down really hard and right now. Can someone shed light on this?

could be a lot of things

Might not be firing on all cylinders, for a bunch of reasons.

could be a short in the kill switch wiring if it is located in the shifter controls.


Start by checking compression and spark on all cylinders.

Start by checking compression and spark on all cylinders.

It fires fine and idles fine. As soon as you put it into gear it moves just a short distance and then it sounds like someone threw a wrench in the gears and it sounds like it locked up but once you put it into neutral it fires back up.

It starts fine and idles fine you say.-----It revs up fine in neutral you say.----They all rev up fine in neutral !!----What size / year is this motor ??----And it is up to you do do some trouble shooting / per post #2----Post compression numbers and check spark on all leads !!
