I should add another fender near the front corner of the dock. Since there is no cleat where I want to hang it I'd like to use the rail base. The base is attached to the hull with 4 screws, not thru bolts. Not sure how much tension that puts on the rail but I'm thinking it should be fine. Opionions welcome.

Hello and welcome aboard

I have 3 pop-up fender cleats on each side I use on my boat. I also have a mini spring line I run from cleat to cleat to add more fenders in between, using a bowline knot to hang them

On any floating dock I use a lot. I have the horizontal floaters with a hole at each end. The float ends are tied in a way underwater that does NOT ALLOW the fender to rise above the dock. A huge wave WILL NOT move the fender up at all. Works so far with White Caps from freighters. I use 1/2" diameter fender lines.

I would attach the fender to the dock in a horizontal manner. As a matter of fact on that beautiful boat I would run a string of fenders attached to the dock permanently.Less to do and less to worry about.Charlie
