I had a guy I met on the east coast make a half model of my old sailboat that I finished from a hull. He does amazing work, the detail is fantastic. The model is 22" long. I sent him lines plans and detail pics.<br />

Re: Half Hull Model.....

I didn't make the model, just did the original 22' boat. I commissioned a guy in CT to do the model from other work of his that I'd seen. He made everything on the boat except the anchor chain and the cowl vent which he got from a model hardware place. He built the anchor, the Charlie Noble, Herreshoff cleats, etc., even made the Lewmar 16ST winch. The boat is a Benford 22, now called a Cascade Classic 22, by the current holders of the mold for the hull. I had that boat for ten years, even lived aboard for over three years despite the small quarters. I sailed this boat ten years engineless with only wind, tide, and ten foot spruce oars. I wouldn't have missed those years for anything. This half hull is my "memoir" of those years of finishing and owning.

sounds like you had some good times with the old gal. I have been sailing a 27 ft Oday 1977 model for about 15 years. she needs a paint job but I don't think I could ever get rid of her, just got too comfortable......

Re: Half Hull Model.....

Hey, in '93 we bought an O'Day 28 which we sailed a bit offshore and around the river for several years. Had the 15hp Zephyr OMC Saildrive. I finally had to sell due to my 'ritis getting too harsh to pull the strings on the jib and move up and down the ladder so much. That's when I sold that boat and bought the Freedom 25 Catboat, no jib, two step ladder. Turns out my fam is not too interested anymore, too much schedule these days, so I just sold that boat after three years. It's looking trailerable for me for at least awhile. I'm looking for an Edey and Duff Dovekie now but you know how that is, it's my 'notion' that it'll be the 'right boat' for the moment....time will tell.

hey friend, don't know what an eday is but I'll look it up. Had a friend who has a 28 oday with the saildrive. I didn't care much for the saildrive but the boat was real nice. 1 foot longer than mine but it sure seemed a lot bigger. he eventually converted it to a cutter rig, but i'm not sure it improved the boat's performance..but he liked the way it looked...I have a universal 4 in mine. lots of folks frown on gas engines but I never had a problem with mine. it is very dependable and almost bullet proof.. just remember to use the blower.....I do all my sailing on a small inland lake so most of what i do is racing cause theres only so much cruising you can do on a lake 30 miles long..none the less its better than nothing.......good luck

sounds good OS. What is the size of the Dovekie? I went to a website called "by the sea" and saw a little info on the builders..
