Another toy, first time out on water past weekend found a thin hairline crack on manifold.

question?

can I jb weld this hairline crack, water is coming out in litteldrops in 2-5 sec. intervals. crack is on the inner side.
Re: hairline crack in exhaust manifold, mercruiser v8
If the manifold is cast iron and is more than 4 or 5 years old, your best bet would be to replace both of your manifolds and risers...

J-B would probably work for a little while...
Re: hairline crack in exhaust manifold, mercruiser v8
I don't know Where Exactly the leak is, But your JB Weld COULD cost you, your Engine.... A little Leak, Can get Big, Quickly....
If you see a little Leak on the Outside, HOW Much is Leaking INSIDE ?????
Re: hairline crack in exhaust manifold, mercruiser v8
bondo,
that is scarey to think of the possibility of the water leaking in the inside. i'll have to tear it apart and check it visually for anymore cracks.
Re: hairline crack in exhaust manifold, mercruiser v8
Hey BBQ,

How goes it?

Replace the manifold(s). If it is cracked on the outside, it could be inside also.

Water in the engine is bad mojo.
Re: hairline crack in exhaust manifold, mercruiser v8
Hey djohns19 - yeah, Its finally dawning on me that this little crack can lead into something really big soon if I do the right thing. is there anyway to find out if there is actually any water leaking into the motor?
Re: hairline crack in exhaust manifold, mercruiser v8
have you pulled the dipstick to check the oil for foam/water yet? i've never worked on a mercV8, but if its leaking water inside, it should show up in the oil pan eventually...
Re: hairline crack in exhaust manifold, mercruiser v8
check for water in the oil first, if this is ok then don't waste time "checking for cracks on the inside" or anywhere else on either manifold. you know they leak there fore they are junk!! replace with the best you can afford along with the elbows. mercrusier ceramic coated are worth the money.
