I have an old haines.

The glass is grazed, crazed and cracked all over, beneath the water line. Its been like this for about 10 years...which is as long as I've had it. I bought it second hand.

I have two questions.

1. How can I tell if its got the rot?
2. What's the best way to fix it?

Pictures please.

Osmosis is evident by soft spots and blistering, you may not have osmosis. When you say cracks, are you talking about gelcoat cracks or see through cracks in the fibreglass?

Re: Haines with osmosis

I don't have a camera to take photos. The cracks are in the jell coat. When I dig them out the fibreglass inside looks mouldy and soft / wet. Looks as if its rotting. Some of the cracks don't have this. I.e. the glass is in good nic.

Is the mouldy, soft and wet looking glass a sign of osmosis?

Should I dig all cracks out? This is the only way I can think of to tell if they have rot or not. I'm concerned water is / will get into the other cracks and cause more mould. Trouble with the 'dig all cracks out' approach is that I have hundreds of such cracks.
