Been awhile need some info. I am trying to remove my evinrude 75hp engine and would like to know how to remove the steering rack from the motor. Do i just unscrew that big nut and it slides out. First time taking one of these off.

"Most" of the time the nut needs to be removed and the engine needs to be unbolted..... because the motor needs to be slid over to one side of the transom to allow room for the steering cable to come out straight. Can be done alone BUT support the motor with a hoist. That motor is every bit of 250 lbs and TOP HEAVY

That's what i thought. Appears to be enough room once slid side ways. Also i need to remove the steering wheel. Do i use some type of wheel puller to remove wheel.

"usually you can loosen the nut but leave it on a tread or two....... PULL on the wheel and hit the nut with a block of hardwood and a hammer. The wheel is normally mounted on a tapered shaft with maybe an alignment woodruff key.

Got it. There was a key. Little rusty. Also got the motor off it. Almost ready to bring to the landfill. Wife will be happy to see it gone.
