Hello,, to everybody here. I have a 24 Ft Pontoon with a 1982 115 Mercury that we had in storage for some time due to illness. I recently started to try to get it seaworthy and am coming up on several issues that need fixin. So far, I have had to replace the water pump, the "up" trim solenoid, the trim switch itself, starter bendix, am now working on the control box,,,sheeesh,,! The control handle was very stiff and thinkin it one of the cables, I disconnected both at the engine, but still no go. Disconnected both at control box and that is where the problem is. I dis-assembled the control box and cleaned all the old, hardened up grease and find that the "throttle only shaft assy" was set up. After lubing up with Lubriplate, I assembled per a printout I got off web " Commander Classic Panel Mount". The first time I tried to shift to forward or reverse,,,, the dang thing hung up and had to dis-assemble to find the spring for the " throttle only plug" had been sheared off by the shift gear,,,What the hay????? I got new spring from auto parts store and after assembly,,,it done it again,,,!!! I have done this 4 times and it keeps shearing the spring,!!!! I'm pretty sure I followed instructions but feel something is missing from this manual I am using,,as long as it assembled per THESE instructions,,,it is going to shear the spring evry time
PLEASE,,,I need some GURU's help,,,and the parts store only has one spring left,,,
PS where are the identifying numbers for the control boxes,,,???
