Report: Police shoot gunmen<br />Police shot and killed at least five people Sunday after gunmen opened fire on contractors crossing a bridge to make levee repairs, The Associated Press reported.<br /><br />Deputy Police Chief W.J. Riley told AP that police shot at eight people who had guns, killing five or six.<br /><br />The Army Corps of Engineers told AP that 14 contractors escorted by police were fired upon while crossing the Danziger Bridge, which spans a canal connecting Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River.<br /><br />Corps spokesman John Hall told AP the contractors were on their way to launch barges into Lake Pontchartrain to help fix a breech in the 17th Street Canal. <br /><br />Initial AP reports had wrongly indicated that the contractors themselves were shot by police; no other details were immediately available.<br /><br /> http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/09/04/katrina.impact/index.html <br /><br />It's all Bush's fault. Bush made them do it? The workers were just all racists and the gumen were trying to protect themselves? The gunmen were just poor people just trying to survive? Give it a few minutes, our liberal friends will come up with some more resonable justifications.

It is stupid Ralph. I saw it on the news a little while ago and have been trying to figure out what their motivation was. I'm assuming of course it's not Bush's fault and that the liberal media isn't making it up to make Bush look bad. I could be wrong on both counts though because it really doesn't make any sense.

So how does it make Bush look bad to have gunmen shoot on Army Corp of Engineer workers trying to repair the levees?<br /><br />By the way, the chopper that just went down, crashed right at the bridge where the workers took fire....

Maybe the gunmen thought the contractors were taking their job oppurtunities away from them. Heaven forbid if the workers were hired without going thru the patronage system so endeared in LA.<br /><br />I have no problem with people staying in their homes. this is their private property but should expect no gubbermint help

I mean if you bring trained workers with equipment in to do a job you should have trained the ignorants and gave them the equipment to do it, right ?<br /> at least thats 5 or 6 knuckle heads that wont be sucking our oxygen or eating up food or water. its hard to believe the actions of such few down there. while any loss of life is sad, this one is not very. <br /><br /> I also agree that if you stay dont expect a bailout the next day. I wont leave but my situation is rather uniqe thanks to the foresight of a great grandfather who purchased land with thought to coastal flooding in 1885. I do wish he had bought more beach front though .<br /><br /> I know its bad but my thoughts on people that will fire on rescue/aide workers is they are sub human and not worthy of any respect for killing. would have no further compunction than I would killing a cotton mouth. would be interesting to get a psychlogists input as to what was going on in them little brains though. not that it really matters.<br /><br /> but I would like to find a copy of the NO evac plan. the plan as far as I can glean calls for 30 hours before landfall. the state troopers study appearently shows it would take more than 50 hours and some of the fed studies back in the 90's showed almost 100 hours to evac the entire area. and that is if you had an orderly evac and not a free for all.<br /> if ya wanna see a funny evac watch them try to evac the coast to the north and south of kitty hawk.<br /> it turns into a parking lot in an hour. and we only have 2 roads. one wreck, one out of gas or one that pulls of the road and gets stuck in the sand and the line quits for hours. I am quite sure its the same in LA.
