Exactly! After 1500 strokes you would be too tired to lift the gun. I guess later on they used a wagon mounted pump. .46 cal, just a tad bigger than Ralphies Red Ryder. Would go thru a 1" board at 100yds. Had some umph behind it. I like how all the tribes let them pass because they thought they would be in big doo doo if they didn't. I guess it was a fragile gun that didn't take much to make it inoperable. Pretty high tech for that era.......
My dad is big on this kind of stuff. I'm curious if he's ever heard of it. He's a major Civil War buff, although this gun was pre Civil War.
