I figured I would start a new thread on this. The event is January 22. I am planning on attending and would like to meet any Iboaters that are at the event. I know Neumans lives close to this event. It would be cool if Barlow, Muskyone and Roscoe could make it. Here is the link to the site for the contest. I went last year and it was a blast. I hope to see you guys out there.

Jacees Ice fishing contest

Re: Gull Lake Ice fishing Contest

Euro .. as it nears and how things are looking it's not looking good.. I'm working all weekend this weekend to keep my rear end out of the fire. I haven't been up to the cabin since before christmas to check and see if the POS isn't caved in from the snow/ice .. (gettin' nervous)

I'm trying to get ahead of the game right now so I have a few days to burn. I've got four projects going right now and I'm on the hot seat with three of them on top of my own crap.

I'll see how things happen this week but, the way its looking I'll have my hands full next weekend as well.

send me an e-mail when you get a chance bud.

neumanns you must be in the Pequot lakes area?? My family spent a number of years going to the Gull four Seasons resort. Gull lake was great boating and fishing, albeit a little high-brow nowadays.

We loved to have breakfast at that a-frame restaurant, what was it called the A-pine or something??

Since we have our own place we don't go up there anymore but the kids do miss the turtle races.

I'm about 2 miles north of the A-pine, had many a Sunday dinner there growing up. Gull lake a "little" highbrow...Yeah I guess...If $500,000 for low end vacant lot is a "little" anything. :D I Must be in the wrong line of work.

Unfortuately, that high-brow thing is happening all over with lake front property and the resorts are all selling out to Condo ownership. But thats another topic..

Re: Gull Lake Ice fishing Contest

That just happens to be the only weekend I have off this month, but have other commitments and 2 BIG projects to get done by the 5th of Feb. I have to get all the plumbing and electrical done on my new kitchen and bathroom before the cabinets and appliances show up on the 5th. Its a totally new installation, staring with 2 empty rooms. Also can't justify the $300 I know I would spend if I went.

I want to get all this stuff done before the warm weather comes around.

Maybe a softwater outing in July or Aug.
Will be in Canada the first week of July.

Barlow, don't think you have much to worry about as far as snow is concerned. We've only got about 4" on the ground here, but I am 50 miles south of your retreat. From Phillips east to Pike Lake they are only reporting 2-6 inches on the ground.

I may give you a call John if I get lost up there. I have your cell number programed into my cell phone. I only have been there once and that was last year. I have to drop my wife off at the casino up there. I just hope I catch one fish this year. I am leaving the aquaview at home and just bringing the velexar. Good luck on the crappie fishing.

Yeah I wish I was up on Elk lake throwing Muskie lures right now. But I'll have to settle for some quality Red lake slabs instead. They do pull a some dandy northerns out of there on ocasion while crappie fishing though, several 38+ inchers a winter is not uncommon...I would take one of those!!!

Re: Gull Lake Ice fishing Contest

It was a beautiful day at the tournament. Wind was about 5 mph and the temp was around 15. 150 prizes were given by weight of the fish. The biggest was a Walleye about 3.5 lb. Funny with 12000 people fishing the tournament only the top 20 prizes were for fish over 1 lb. A lot of rock bass won weighing almost a lb and the smallest fish to win was about .5 lb perch. Only one crappie qualified as a prize. We had a ton of snow fall the previous day and the fishing was terrible. I fished it for about 2 hours and never saw a fish on the velexar and never had a bite. It was fun though. There will always be another one next year.

Sorry to hear of the bad fishing.
Sounds just like it was a couple years ago.

Can you imagine the guilt you would be feeling if you had won the $10,000 prize with a 10 ounce rock bass? Or an atv with a 8 oz perch?

Re: Gull Lake Ice fishing Contest

Had to fish pre drilled holes and can only use one hole at a time. I left the aquaview home for this reason and will not make that mistake next year. It was a good time though. Man the smells of the food cooking out there was awful tempting. I had cheese curds, and a brat that was out of this world. It was cool to see the people standing in line with their catch in bags of water. As roscoe mentioned two years ago they barely caught 150 fish in the whole tournament. Last year there were a lot more fish caught. I guess the next one is next month at forest lake also in Minnesota. I dont know when it is but I am planning on hitting that one as well. Hell it is only money.
