Hi my motor is a 50hp us marine force(507F9B,s/n1254)and i have ordered my parts(impeller, head gasket, fuel pump repair kit)apart from the impeller(bolts on gearbox look all shiny and new compared to rest which all still have paint on so i am assuming impeller has been done in the past but i am not taking any chances as motor was left standing for 3yrs).all bolts on engine are like new i.e. still with paint on so no bolts have ever been touched,i do have a seloc manual but i was wondering will there be any common problems to be aware of in reference to dismantling?.
1:Impeller,change as not sure on condition,
2:Head gasket,i want to change as crystals and moisture coming out of gasket(i have noticed two gaskets here but the problem is on the gasket in contact with the block).
3:Fuel pump, hard to keep running when starting ie it will fire but either very low tick over or when throttle is applied via lever engine dies(if i apply throttle via carb instead i have no problems but motor was fine when i last used it 2 weeks before.
Are there ANY major do's and dont's here and what gasket sealant if any should be used,i have learnt that sometimes not all tips are in the manual so here i am.
I also like the idea of making up and connecting a pipe to the hole behind the thermastat thus making a visible jet of water instead of relying on the fine spray and that idea was taken off a topic here.

Impeller should be changed every two years, and you dont use any sealant on the head gasket. You might want to disassemble the carb and at least clean it out and possibly replace the needle and seat.

You may also want to take out the spark plugs and spray some fogging oil into the cylinders if that head gasket is leaking, water could be getting into your cylinders. When you pull the plugs if they look like they have ben steam cleaned you should fog the motor and turn it over by hand a few times to lubricate.

i have 4 head bolts that do not want to move(2 middle and 2 at the bottom),the only way now is to keep going till they snap and will these be high grade stainless bolts and difficult to drill out!!!i take it that this is the only way now

Try applying heat to the bolts then remove them. I use a small propane torch and just heat up for a few secs, then see if you can get em out--

After they snap you can try an easy out. My old chrysler had three bolts like you mention. I tried PB Blaster, propane torch and some choice cuss words but they still snapped. Tried using an easy out and that snapped too. Ended up using JB Weld and retapping. I hope your project goes better for you.

Here is swomething else you might try to loosen those head bolts, you have to work slowly. Try to move the bolts back and forth juist a little at a time or maybe take a hammer with a brass or aluminmum drift and strike the bolts on the head a few times. If there is salt corrosion it may loosen the corrosion enough to be able to remove the bolts.

bits now arrived(impeller,h/gasket and f/pump repair gaskets, but guy forgot about the spark plugs grrrrrr so much for saving on p+p!!!£51 total delivered),f/pump now done i just need to be in the right frame of mind to do head bolts mmmmmmmm!! anyway my question is that the previous owner had a chrysler 45hp on the back with a chrysler tacho now when the 45 went pop he bought the force and said that he never had the tacho wired up,after reading the seloc manual i am abit cautious about the wiring of it as i do not fancy frying the 50's electric's.there is a dial on the back of the tacho which reads 1 to 4 and at the mo it is on 2 the other contacts are LT i assume power for light,GRD is that earth/ground and the last contact has the letter S.is this tacho any good for my force
