Gt200 rpm range?

Does anyone know what the top rpm should be for a 87 Johnson GT200 should be? took it up to 5500 rpms with a 14.25 x 21 alum. and I have a 14.25 x 23 stainless. What should this engine top rpm be? thanks.

I believe the limiter is at 6200. It might be at 6700. It should be stamped on the packs.<br /><br />Good motor!

Are you supposed to run it up to rev. limiter? I wasn't too sure on how far to go so I stopped at 5500. Didn't want to cough motor, thanks for any info

I would set it up to be capable of 6000 with an average load. This is the Baja, right?<br /><br />6700 RPM will not hurt it at all. As a matter of fact, if it's "lugged" or limited to top RPM's in the low 5000 range it will not last as long.<br /><br />Good luck!
