I have a 1990 model Johnson GT150 motor. I have just discovered that both pressure vales were bad.I have only owned this boat for aboat one year.My question is can I just pull out my presure valves and thermostats and not replace them just running the engine with out either. I would be trying aviod any future over heating issues.

Re: GT150

The engine must have all of those components installed and operating properly for the combustion process to work right...The internals have to expand to a certain tolerance for the best fit, and if the engine runs too cool, you will have carbon build-up issues that will cause more problems yet...

Walleyehed is right on. A cold-running engine will give you performance problems. More overheat issues stem from bad impellers, than the thermostat system. Keep the valves and thermostats.
