Grumman Sport Boat

Like so many others I'm looking for info on my old Grumman Sport Boat, serial # 1404-G-158. Primarily I'm interested in year of manufacture and load capacities for this vintage. She's in excellent condition- no dents, dings or repairs. Along with a vintage 6 HP Johnson, it's the perfect fishing boat for our north Maine woods lakes an ponds. At 112 pounds my wife and I can load it onto our camper with little trouble and you never know it's there. Thanks in advance for any info.

Ayuh,... It's atleast a Pre-1973, as since then the last 2 digits of the serial number is the year....

How big is it,..?? That'll determine it's capacity....

Bond o, thanks for the reply. This model is 15' 3" but I understand that weight capacities vary greatly according to year with the newer models at far lower ratings than the older. I've heard of 1080 lbs for early models to 350 lbs for the new issue. Just want to be safely within the parameters though it's hard to believe that you could overload it with two adults, a 6HP motor and fishing gear.

Ayuh,... I too, doubt you'll be overloaded in a 15' boat....

I was born, 'n raised in Old Town, myself...
Spent many great times up on Pleasant Lake, 'n Scraggly Lake, salmon fishin' in early spring...

I hail from the banks of the Narraguagus River in Cherryfield; once the Atlantic Salmon Mecca for Washington County and a good run of fish finally this year with about 200 fish put through the trap. Tunk Lake; once among the top landlocked salmon lakes in eastern Maine has suffered from too many years of poor management. I used to routinely catch (and release) about 30 five pound salmon each spring but now the lake is full of stunted togue, few salmon and very few smelts. Scraggly is still productive and West Grand has been very good the last few years as well as East Grand. We also fish Nahmakanta, Rainbow, Munsungan and some of the trout ponds in Jo Mary and KI along with some hard to get to lakes and ponds. Afraid I won't live long enough to fish them all! Good to heah from a fellow Mainah!!!

Ayuh,.... As a kid in the 60s/ 70s, an older cousin worked for the Atlantic Salmon Commission outa Orono, 'n manned that trap for many seasons...

Whata Job eh,..?? pull the trap twice a day, 'n fish the whole time in-between...
The draw-back was drivin' from Orono to Cherryfield, 'n back, dawn, 'n dusk on the airline road...

It was always a safe bet that being invited to dinner at Aunt Rose, 'n Uncle Ralph's meant Salmon steaks,...
Unless it was Saturday night, then it was Beanhole Beans, cinnamon rolls, 'n dogs stuffed with cheese...
