Hi,
I have a 1972 20hp Mercury and read where they have a carbon steel crankshaft. Someone said a company called Grubbs makes a stainless steel sleeve to put over them. Are they on the internet, I'd like to see one and find out how much they cost. Thank you.

I didn't find anything in a quick search of the www.oldmercs.com site but you might give them a holler.

The stainless steel sleeve you're talking about is also known as Redi-Sleeve or Speedi-Sleeve. So you might try Googling on those names.

You can check at your local auto parts store and they may be able to get one or the other. If you have a local bearing "specialty" house they surely will be able to get these.

You'll need to measure the driveshaft seal area to get the proper size sleeve. A specifically-sized sleeve fits a narrow range of shaft-sizes.
