I'd hope they tally up the costs associated with the search effort and send him the bill. Or seize the PWC and sell it if he can't/won't pay up.

Obviously he was not wearing his wrist band with the emergency cut-off cord. If you fall off, it's supposed to yank something free and kill the motor.

Good point! I'd forgotten about the kill cord.

When I was in SAR we got called to a windsurfer getting blown out into the Irish Sea in a force 6/7. Rescued him but left his board behind. A few days later he billed the squadron for the board (about ?500 or $900) so the CO sent him back a bill for the rescue........... ?4500 or $8500
