OK....I have a 1988 Four Winns Horizon. 5.7 liter V8. OMC Cobra. We had a very hard winter this year and it played hell on my boat. I winterized it the same as I do every year, however, somehow the engine block cracked. I had the long block replaced by a certified OMC mechanic and the engine is now running fine.
After the replacement, I hooked the boat up to the flushers and I got gear lube running out. I took it back in and they pressure and vacuum tested it and replaced gaskets on the gearcase. So far, I havent had issues with water in the gearcase now. However, when I took it out for the first time:
1. The shift cable is alot stiffer than it used to be.
2. I get a growling noise only on an end range left turn. It does not do it turning to the right. After discussing with the mechanic, he stated that it is not the Gimbal Bearing or the u joints because he checked those when he had the out drive apart replacing the gaskets. He also stated that its not the alignment. What else could it be? Any input would be appreciated. I am out of ideas.
