Grounds...

Seems I am piling on you guys, but here is another. I got a new crome gas port for my SVC 195 SS because the threads were completely gone (tough to install, being so close to the tank) and I added a ground wire between the port and the tank, as I was advised to do. There is already a ground from tank to engine. But the notion of grounding the port, so that a stray static charge would not cause a spark, doesn't seem right. As the charge builds up on a dry day, say, in a lady's dress, it looks for some way to ground and would create a spark just as the nozzle was about to touch the grounded port. With a floating port contact, it would seem to be safer. Is this nuts? Thanks again.....

Re: Grounds...

The ground is necessary so that the charge built up near the fill port will not build up in the first place.
