Ground wire to screw

I have two flood lights that weren't covered over the winter. Went to turn them in today and got nothing. When I run a wire directly from the ground bus and touch the ring terminal that connected to the light it turns on. Does this mean there is corrosion? The oringal owner ran the ground wire to a screw on the light fixture. What would be the problem? Does it go nut-terminal-washer?thamks

Well you need to check the ground wire for corrosion or maybe it's broken. It has to be one or the other.

... Does it go nut-terminal-washer?

It is always a bad idea to use the hardware to make the connection.
Make the stack-up as if the Nut and any Washers were made of plastic.

Put good smear of grease on everything first.
Then put any connectors on the stud first, and add any Washers and Nut last.

If the ground wire was corroded or broken would the light still turn on if I ran a ground wire from battery to the ring terminal? I'm really frustrated over a light lol

I thought you had it solved???
Stating a wire connects to a screw on a light fixture does not mean much when we can't see the whole configuration.

You need to supply a ground.
The light appears to be attached to some kind of frame with some canvas lashed to it.
What is the frame connected to?
Is it grounded? How does the battery ground connect to the frame.
Somehow it needs to get back to the battery.

Re: Ground wire to screw

Ok thanks big willie. I think you helped me find my problem. I looked at some pictures from a while ago and found that the center console was grounded to the fuse box. I will check it out tomorrow and let you know how it goes. Thanks big willie
