ground wire on plastic carb linkage & does choke plunger get lubed?

Hopefully my picture will come through this time. I took pictures as I took my motor apart but I can't see where this wire runs. It is attached midway up on the plastic carb linkage and has an "eye" end. It looks like a ground wire but it is on a plastic linkage. The only place it looks like it might go to, is the choke solenoid just above it. Any idea where it goes and why it is there?
Also, does the piston in the electric choke get any lube? If so, what type and how much?
Thanks again,
Karl.

Merc routinely used wires with crimped metal eyes to connect the choke shutter to the manual choke knob, in the top cowling support. I guess it was easier than finding some string.

Ah, that makes sence and that's why in most of my pictures, it was disconnected. I had removed it when I pulled off the top cover before I had took many of my picts. I just had to run out and look. That's it! The shop manual is borderling useless but fortunately, a little common sence and everything is lining up nice. Its an entertaining puzzle.
Thanks a lot,
Karl.
