I have a 1997 Wellcraft with a 5.7 volvo penta outdrive cobra sx.The problem I have is when I turn,it makes a grinding kinda thumping sound more when I turn it to the left.I had the outdrive taken off and they said the u-joints were fine and gimble was changed resently.I bought the boat 7 months ago and I just got back from a 2 week vac. on the lake and drove it every day pulling tubes and riding.I did like 5 hours a day and I was waiting for something to break but it still runs great.I put a new prop on while I was up there too .Any help would be great!!This site has helped me in the past so I hope for some good help again thanks in advance for any help!!

Replace the ujoints. I didn't say check them, replace them. When you take them apart, you will see the grooves. I have changed many that felt good, but looked horrible when taken apart.
Just the nature of the beast.

Re: Grinding sound

Sounds like you have a different problem now. Originally it was when you turned it, now it's at different rpms.

Was the alignment checked 0 and at 180? ?
