Having a few problems with my 1996 Johnson 150.
1) Engine stalls at idle, whether it is warm or cold. I just replaced the plugs last month, have fresh fuel. Engine was running fine for a month, now it keeps stalling at idle.
Runs fine once throttled up.

2) When shifting from neutral into forward, I can hear gears grinding / chattering for a few seconds (5-10 seconds), and yes I am shifting quickly, not slowly. Engine also sputters when shifting into gear, but once throttled up it runs fine.

3) When shifting from forward into reverse, engine stalls (also, the shift cable feels VERY tight when trying to get into reverse... like I am running out of cable).

Any thoughts? Out of alignment shift linkage? Low idle speed? Bad gears?
Thanks!

Check the shift switch, gear oil, adjust cables.

linkedge problem everything has to be set correctly you could try to find a old control box that has seprit shift and throttle first of all your engine needs to idle good becouse it is very important to have throttle down before shifting if not it could damadge the lower unit
