Grillin' out on the lake

I picked up a cool charcoal burning grill on CL. It has hardware to mount to my bow rail. Its a Magma 14" stainless steel grill.

The PO said he used it while beached but I intend on using it while anchored. It dawned on me that I had never seen anyone grilling out on the lake.

Is it okay to do this? I've go a 20' bowrider. Does anyone know if there are rules against this sort of activity?

People do that all the time. Have fun, just be careful, especially with a charcoal grill. have a fire extinguisher handy. ;)

The last time religion controlled the world it was called the dark ages.

Grilling on the lake does indeed beat bologna sandwiches, but what is with that signature Bomar76? I mean really?

You might find out that propane may be the way to go. Because when you are out on the water and cook then time to go the grill is still hot so you have to leave it where it is and running on the water with the grill dirty can make a mess. As a friend of mine found out.he now carries a metal bucket with a lid and cleans it out before taking off. Or put a locking mecanisim on the grill lid.

There was a thread on this last summer. Do a search with keyword grill in the topics and read on.

Happy Grilling.

I like to think there is a law that says you HAVE TO grill while out on the lake.

As long as the Fireman says its okay, Grill ON!!

Here's a link to the grill.

I agree gas would be easier but I'm a bit of a grilling purist and I'm willing to sit and relax after a couple of nice steaks on the lake. Just part of the sacrifice we boaters must make. Perhaps a cold beverage and even a good cigar after the meal will allow the coals to burn out.

Rule - No grilling while tubing!!

How do you make out with the grease drippen on the swim grid, or does it go into the water?????
We have a smaller propane BBQ that I was going to make a mounting platform for the boat, but will buy a boat specific one and avoid the headaches.
That boat mounted charcoal/birquetes BBQ scares me, I will stick with the gas.

Re: Grillin' out on the lake

how are you not scared to bring your boats up to that much deep water? doesn't your prop dig in?

Nope, its all sand there. We shut the boats off, trim all the way up as you can see the props out of the water and walk them in a bit. The transom has roughly 10-12" of water under her before the bottom and the bows are actually over a good drop off where it goes from 3' right down to 7-8' of water and then deeper. We don't ever beach the boats, just float and tie up with anchors on both ends.

if there is any grease, it drips into the water. The only issue with it being on the swimrail like that is access is limited to the boat when we are anchored and cooking. you can still board the boat from the water, but its kinda tricky and i dont let the kids do it. on or off the boat until lunch is done.

I'm a big charcoal fan at home, but i would never try it on the boat. propane is fast, clean, and i dont have to dispose of hot coals. My grill has double walls on it so it cools down rather quickly also.
